Taking Trees Down on Edmond Lots
Tree removal in Edmond usually starts at the top of the tree, not the bottom. Backyards in most subdivisions have a roof on one side, a privacy fence on two, and often a pool or patio in the middle, so there is rarely room to drop a 50-foot pecan or pine in one piece. A climber or a lift takes the limbs off first, then the trunk in sections, and heavy pieces are lowered on ropes. On east-side acreage the opposite can be true: open ground lets some trees be felled, but the pace and cleanup are different. How the tree has to come down is the main thing that sets the price.
Trees that should come out
Some are clear: dead trees, pines killed by pine wilt, trunks that have split, roots torn up on one side after a storm, or a cavity or fungus at the base. Edmond Electric's storm guide recommends removal when 50% or more of the crown is damaged, when the trunk is broken or girdled, or when a mature tree leans 30 degrees or more. Others are judgment calls: a healthy tree that has simply outgrown the spot next to the foundation, or a Bradford pear that splits a little more every winter. We tell you what we see, and if pruning would solve the problem, we say so.
Pine wilt pines
Scotch and Austrian pines were planted widely in Edmond yards, and both are highly susceptible to pine wilt. OSU Extension advises confirming the disease with a lab sample, then removing the infected tree as soon as possible and chipping, burning or burying the wood, because a dead pine left standing can shelter both the nematode and the pine sawyer beetles that carry it to the next tree. The stump should be removed or ground below the soil. We schedule pine wilt removals quickly for that reason.
Bradford pears
OSU Extension calls the Callery (Bradford) pear weak and easily damaged by ice and wind, and recommends removing it, partly because it spreads into pastures and woods from bird-dropped seed. Cut pears often resprout from the stump unless it is ground out or treated, which is why we price stump work with pear removals.
Close to wires and the street
We do not work near energized lines. If a tree is touching or close to a utility line, the utility is called first, and we take down the rest of the tree once the line is clear. If the trunk stands in the right-of-way, usually within about 10 to 12 feet of the curb, it is a street tree in Edmond's terms, and the owner of the adjoining lot is generally responsible for it; we confirm that with you before quoting.
Wood, brush and the stump
You choose whether logs stay in rounds, get cut to firewood length or leave with us, and whether chips stay for mulch. The stump is its own line on the quote. Emerald ash borer has not been confirmed in Oklahoma County as of 2026, but state forestry officials still ask people to burn firewood where they get it, so wood from your tree should stay local.

Tree Removal Questions
How much does it cost to remove a tree in Edmond?
Homeyou's October 2026 Edmond figures put a medium tree at about $482 to $656. National guides run from under $300 for a small tree to $2,000 or more for a very large one. Limbs over the house, dead wood and narrow gates raise the price. We give a written price after seeing the tree.
Do I need the city's permission to remove a tree in my yard?
No permit is currently required to remove a tree at a residence in Edmond. Permits apply to unplatted land and to nonresidential, special purpose and PUD districts. If you are in an HOA, check your covenants; some associations have their own rules on removing trees.
Should I take out a pine that turned brown this summer?
If it is a Scotch or Austrian pine, pine wilt is likely, and OSU Extension recommends confirming it and removing the tree quickly so beetles do not carry the disease to other pines. The wood should be chipped, burned or buried, and the stump ground below the soil.
Is a dead tree harder to remove?
Usually. Dead wood can snap unexpectedly under rigging loads, so climbers move more slowly or a lift is used instead. Taking a dying tree down before it is fully dead is often simpler and cheaper.
Can you remove a tree right next to my house?
Yes. That is what sectional removal is for: each piece is cut and lowered on a rope so it swings away from the roof and gutters. We note on the quote anything nearby that needs extra protection, such as an AC unit or pool equipment.
