Small Lots, Close Neighbors
Tree Service in The Village is shaped by density. This is a city of about 9,500 people on roughly 2.55 square miles of land, almost entirely surrounded by Oklahoma City and bordering Nichols Hills. Census figures show an average of fewer than two people per household and 5,230 housing units in 2020, which means a lot of homes, duplexes and apartments packed into a small area. When a tree comes down here, it usually has a fence, a garage, a neighbor's roof and a power line within reach.
Working where there is no room to drop anything
On most Village lots, felling a whole tree in one piece is not an option. We take trees down in sections, lowering each piece on a rope so it lands where we want it, and we cut the trunk into short rounds that can be carried or rolled out to the drive. When the only access is a gate, we bring the chipper to the street and carry the brush to it. It takes longer than dropping a tree across an open yard, and the quote reflects that honestly.
Trees that cross property lines
Shared trees are common here. Our practice is simple: we trim limbs on your side of the line, we do not make cuts so deep that they damage or kill the tree, and we suggest you tell the neighbor before we start. If a tree is on the line or clearly the neighbor's, we will want both owners to agree before we touch the trunk. A short conversation now saves a dispute later.
Wind is the main threat
The Village sat in the path of straight-line winds on June 13, 1998, when the National Weather Service measured a 105 mph gust at nearby Lake Hefner and recorded wind damage in Nichols Hills and The Village. Older trees with split trunks, deep cavities or heavy limbs over a roof are the ones to watch. A quick look from the ground can tell you a lot: mushrooms at the base, bark falling off in sheets, or a crack running down from a fork are all reasons to call.
Common jobs here
- Pruning limbs off roofs, gutters and chimneys
- Clearing branches from the service line to the house, with power disconnected first
- Taking out storm-split trees in sections
- Grinding stumps close to fences and slabs
- Removing volunteer trees that sprouted along fence lines and are now prying boards apart

The Village by the Numbers
- Dense housing. The 2020 census counted 9,538 residents and 5,230 housing units on about 2.55 square miles of land, with an average of 1.96 people per household in recent Census estimates.
- Ownership. Census QuickFacts reports a 63.5% owner-occupied housing rate and a median owner-occupied home value of $211,800; 18.9% of residents are 65 or older.
- Hemmed in by Oklahoma City. The Village is almost entirely enclaved by Oklahoma City and borders Nichols Hills, which is why its lots stay compact and rarely gain new open land.
- 1998 wind damage. The National Weather Service reported straight-line wind damage in Nichols Hills and The Village during the June 13, 1998 storms, which also produced a 105 mph gust at Lake Hefner.

The Village Questions
My neighbor's tree hangs over my yard. Can you trim it?
We can trim the limbs on your side of the line, as long as the cuts do not seriously harm the tree. We recommend telling your neighbor first. If the trunk is theirs and the whole tree needs to come down, they have to be the one to approve it.
My back yard only has a narrow gate. Can a tree still be removed?
Usually. We climb or use ropes to take it down in pieces, cut the wood into pieces small enough to carry, and chip at the street. Narrow access mainly adds time, and we account for it in the quote.
Can you grind a stump right next to a fence or driveway?
In most cases, yes. Smaller grinders fit through gates and can work tight to a fence or slab. If roots run under the concrete, we grind what is safe to reach and tell you what remains.
How do I know if a tree near my house is a real hazard?
Look for a crack running down from a fork, a cavity you can put your hand in, fungus growing from the base or roots, or a lean that has recently changed. Any one of those over a roof, drive or the neighbor's house is worth a closer look. We will tell you honestly if it is fine to leave for now.
