A Town Built Into the Woods

Tree Service in Woodlawn Park is shaped by how the town began. The land was part of Frank Levi Braniger's farm, claimed around the Land Run of 1889, and in 1923 one of his sons subdivided a heavily wooded part of it into residential lots. The trees were there first and the houses went in among them. That is still visible today: Woodlawn Park is a rectangle of about 81 acres bounded by Council Road, Glade Avenue, NW 36th Street and NW 39th Street, with a long central park between NW 37th and NW 38th.

Old trees, older owners

A few homes date from the late 1920s, most were built in the late 1940s and 1950s, and building continued into the 1990s. The 2020 census counted 160 residents with a median age of 57, and about a third of residents are 65 or older. In practice, that means many owners are not interested in climbing ladders with a saw anymore, and many of the trees have been growing alongside the homes for 70 years or more. Those two facts together are most of the reason people call us.

Doubly enclaved, and why that matters

Woodlawn Park is completely surrounded by Bethany, which in turn is entirely inside Oklahoma City. The town elects a board of trustees, while Bethany and Oklahoma County provide city services. If you are trying to find out who handles something like storm brush pickup or a tree in the right-of-way, start by asking the town board which agency is responsible, because it is not always obvious from the address.

What we usually do here

Most Woodlawn Park jobs are deadwood removal and weight reduction on big, old shade trees, plus the occasional full removal of a tree that has declined beyond saving. With lots set close together under a shared canopy, one tree's crown often stretches over two or three yards. We plan those jobs so limbs come down in controlled pieces, and we talk with you about letting the neighbors know before we start.

The central park and street trees

The town's long central park strip is shared ground. We do not prune or remove trees on public land without the owner's approval, so if a park tree is dropping limbs onto your lot, tell the town board. We are glad to handle the limbs that hang over your side once that is sorted out.

Stump Grinding in Edmond, OK

Woodlawn Park Questions

The tree I am worried about shades three yards. Who has to agree to the work?

Whoever owns the trunk decides on removal. Neighbors can usually have limbs over their own yard trimmed. On a shared canopy like Woodlawn Park's, we suggest a quick conversation among the owners first so the work is done once, and done evenly.

Can you help with a big tree I cannot maintain anymore?

Yes. Many of our Woodlawn Park calls come from owners who used to do their own trimming. We can set up a pruning visit every few years so dead wood never builds up to the point where it becomes a problem.

Who picks up brush in Woodlawn Park?

City services here come through Bethany and Oklahoma County, so check with the town board for current pickup rules. When we do a job, we chip and haul the brush ourselves, so nothing waits at the curb.

Can stumps be ground on lots this close together?

Yes. Our grinder fits through standard gates and works close to fences, walks and foundations. We clean up the grindings or leave them as mulch, your choice, and we mark any irrigation lines you point out before we start.
