Long-Owned Homes, Long-Grown Trees
Tree Service in Spencer usually starts with a tree that has been in the yard longer than anyone can remember. Spencer was established in 1903, after the 1889 Land Run opened the area, and grew steadily after World War II as jobs came to the General Motors plant and Tinker Air Force Base nearby. The 2020 census counted 3,978 residents and 1,773 housing units on about 5.4 square miles, and two out of three occupied homes were owner-occupied. The homeowner vacancy rate was just 1.1%. People here tend to stay, and their trees get big.
The river side of town
Spencer sits just east of the North Canadian River, about 10 miles from downtown Oklahoma City, bordered by Nicoma Park to the east and Midwest City to the south. Properties near the river corridor tend to have deeper soil and more water, and the trees grow large and fast. Fast growth often means weaker wood. Big, old trees near the river are the ones we most often recommend having checked, especially if they have dead limbs high in the crown or a hollow at the base.
What we look for on a Spencer visit
When we walk a yard, we start at the ground and work up. At the base: fungus, cracked or lifted soil, and missing bark. On the trunk: open cavities, long vertical cracks, and seams where two trunks meet. In the crown: dead branches, broken stubs from past storms, and limbs resting on the roof or the line to the house. We tell you what we find, what can wait and what should not.
Lines to the house
If branches are growing into the service wire that runs from the pole to your home, do not try to cut them yourself. OG&E notes that the service drop is the property owner's responsibility, recommends hiring a professional tree service, and asks owners to call customer service for a temporary disconnect before work near it. We schedule that with you so the line is dead before anyone climbs.

Spencer Questions
Can you split a big job into smaller pieces to fit my budget?
Yes. We list each tree and task separately on the estimate, mark what is urgent, and you choose what to do now and what to schedule later.
A big limb is lying on the wire to my house. What should I do?
Stay away from it and call the utility first. Once the line is safe or disconnected, we can remove the limb and trim the rest of the tree back from the wire.
How do I know if an old tree is hollow?
Open cavities, carpenter ants, mushrooms at the base, and a dull sound when the trunk is tapped are all clues. A hollow tree is not always unsafe, since the strength is in the outer shell, but how thick that shell is matters. We can check it.
Will you haul away all the wood and brush?
Yes, unless you ask us to leave some. Brush is chipped on site and logs are loaded and taken away. If you heat with wood or want it for a fire pit, we cut it to length and stack it for you, which also trims the price a little.
Do you also work in Midwest City and Nicoma Park?
Yes. Spencer, Nicoma Park, Midwest City, Choctaw and Harrah are all part of our regular east-side area, so it is easy to fit a Spencer job into the schedule.
