Bottomland and Upland in a Very Small Town
Tree Service in Arcadia is a rural job in a tiny town. Arcadia covers about 1.5 square miles and counted just 169 residents in 2020, but plenty of homes around it on the northeast side of Oklahoma County share its address and its landscape. The town lies near the Deep Fork River, about 17 miles northeast of Oklahoma City, and it is best known for its Round Barn, a Route 66 landmark.
Bottomland soil, bottomland trees
Arcadia grew up as a cotton town because its soil near the Deep Fork suited cotton. Rich, moist bottomland grows big, fast trees, and cottonwood is the classic example along creeks and old fields. They are great for shade and terrible at holding together in old age. When we work on bottomland properties, much of the job is removing big, aging trees with dead tops or hollow trunks before they fall on a fence, shed or house.
The upland side
Up out of the bottoms, the ground turns to Cross Timbers, with post oak, blackjack oak and a lot of eastern redcedar. Those slow-growing oaks are worth keeping. The cedar usually is not. Clearing cedar back from homes and drives, and raising the low limbs of the oaks, is the most common upland job we do around here, especially since the March 2025 wildfires in neighboring Logan County.
A town that chose to stay independent
Arcadia opened a post office in 1890, lost most of its business district in a June 1924 fire, and resisted incorporation for decades. It finally incorporated in 1987, after Edmond tried to annex it in 1984 and 1985. Tulon's Drugstore, which survived the 1924 fire, is on the National Register of Historic Places. Homes in and around town range from old farmhouses to newer places built on acreage near Arcadia Lake.

- A very small town. The 2020 census counted 169 residents in about 1.52 square miles, at an elevation of about 961 feet, roughly 17 miles northeast of Oklahoma City.

Arcadia Questions
Is it worth saving a big cottonwood near the house?
Sometimes. A healthy cottonwood can be thinned and reduced to cut the risk. One with a dead top, a hollow trunk or big limbs already dropping is usually a removal, because cottonwood wood is weak and decays quickly.
Can you clear an overgrown driveway or home site?
Yes. We cut back cedar, brush and low limbs to open the drive to full width and height, and we can clear around the house too. It makes a property easier to live on and easier for fire trucks to reach.
Do you work around Arcadia Lake?
We work on private property around the lake area and the roads leading to it. Trees on public lake land are managed by the lake's owner, so we do not cut those.
How long does it take to clear cedar from a few acres?
It depends on density more than acreage. A scattered stand might take a day, while a solid thicket can take several. We look at it in person and give you a written price for the area you choose, so there is no surprise in the bill.
Do I need to be home when you work?
Not usually for outdoor work, as long as we have agreed on exactly which trees go, where the wood ends up, and how we get in. Many rural owners mark trees with ribbon before we arrive. We will call when we start and when we finish.
Can you cut a tree that fell across my fence line?
Yes. We cut the tree off the fence in pieces to keep from pulling down more wire, clear the brush, and leave the fence ready for repair. If the tree came from a neighbor's side, it helps to let them know before we start.
